Dr. Alyssa Maldonado-Estrada (VC ’13) is Assistant Professor of religion at Kalamazoo College and has a PhD from Princeton University. Professor Maldonado-Estrada is the recent author of Lifeblood of the Parish: Men and Catholic Devotion in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (NYU Press).
When she applied to Vassar, she had no idea what liberal arts even meant, but she emerged wanting to be a liberal arts professor herself. In this talk she shares her best experiences: finding mentors, getting lost in research, and the classes that blew her mind. She gets real about how the first few weeks at Vassar were a series of fumbles and serendipitous moments, talks about the missteps and lucky strikes that often lead to finding your academic passions and shares how it is ok to change your mind along the way.
